1622 – Indians kill 347 English settlers around Jamestown, Virginia, a third of the colony's population

1733 - Joseph Priestly invents carbonated water (seltzer)

1765 - Stamp Act passed and is the 1st direct British tax on American colonists

1790 - Thomas Jefferson becomes the 1st US Secretary of State

1861 - 1st US nursing school chartered

1903 - Due to a drought, Niagara Falls runs out of water 

1972 – The United States Congress sends the Equal Rights Amendment to the states for ratification

1975 - Walt Disney World Shopping Village opens

1982 - 3rd Space Shuttle Mission, Columbia 3 is launched

2017 - At least four people died, while at least 20 were injured in a terrorist attack in London near the Houses of Parliament
